A Case Study in Unity Care's PropelNext Journey

PropelNext is a three-year intensive capacity-building program implemented by Learning for Action to help promising nonprofits transform into high-performing data-driven organizations. The program was incubated by the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation and is currently supported by the William and Flora Hewlett, David and Lucile Packard, Sobrato Family, Edna McConnell Clark, and Heising-Simons foundations.

Over multiple years of evaluating the PropelNext initiative, we have had the honor of getting to know over 40 nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to help young people thrive. Most recently, we had the opportunity to delve deeper into the journey of Unity Care, one of the many impressive PropelNext grantees. This case study captures an inspiring story of leadership, vision, and resilience. We highlight several key levers that have been hallmarks of the PropelNext program and have been exemplified by Unity Care including (1) courageous and adaptive leadership, (2) organizational alignment, and (3) data-driven decision-making grounded in a culture of learning.
