Michael partners with leading nonprofits, public agencies, and foundations tackling challenging social issues to help them understand and enhance their impact. He is particularly drawn to issues that intersect with his background in education and urban planning including educational equity, workforce development, economic and community development, the immigrant experience, housing and homelessness, and systems change.

Michael's roots in the sector and commitment to social change started early in his career when he worked with educational opportunity programs in the community college and university systems. Building on his experiences in education and direct service, Michael focused much of his career on research and advocacy, working with organizations such as the James Irvine Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the San Francisco Health Improvement Partnership. For the past 10 years, Michael has consulted for organizations across sectors using evaluation and learning as tools to inform both practice and policy change.

Michael is a seasoned developmental evaluator who works closely with clients and their community partners to generate ongoing insights regarding the implementation of complex strategies. He draws on a deep mixed-methods skill set, including survey design, qualitative data collection, and rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis. He also offers special expertise in social network analysis and spatial analysis using geographic information systems (GIS).
