The Story of The David and Lucile Packard Foundation’s Ten-Year Effort to Champion Family, Friend, and Neighbor Care in California
Each day, as families across the U.S. try to find childcare that works for them, more and more families are deciding that Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) care provides care that is culturally, linguistically, and financially responsive to their needs. To help ensure that this approach to care is as supported and effective as possible, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation spent a decade investing in FFN care efforts by supporting research, testing and learning from promising strategies, and scaling impactful programs.
This report tells the story of this ten-year effort, highlighting grantee accomplishments and lessons learned along the way. It also offers a current snapshot of promising signals in today’s FFN landscape and a call to action for sustaining progress.
